It starts with building an industry-specific dictionary that uses natural language processing (NLP) to read and review a range of plant documents such as corrective action reports.
Making a dictionary from scratch today would not only be a game-changer for one utility, but for the entire industry.
This task is not easy, and one that every utility would have to do independently today.
That’s where EPRI comes in.
EPRI has started to develop a nuclear plant NLP dictionary, which creates the foundation for building tools that detect leaks and spills, track contamination history, and make real-time predictions based on data.
Building on the NLP dictionary’s success, the corrective action reporting tool is already ~88% accurate, and soon, it will be able to recommend future action based on maintenance reports.
Once finished, the industry will have a universal dictionary and template that can be used across companies.
Eventually, NLP tools will auto-complete report reviews, freeing up countless hours of plant workers’ time, creating new efficiencies and enhancing maintenance operations.
The dictionary will be expanded to cover the entire electric power industry, vastly expanding its value.
